Lectures include...

Dante’s Paradiso
Fr. Gabriel Coless, OSB
A Three Evening Series
Tuesdays, March 9, 16, 23
8pm – 9pm Kountze Room, Old Main

The third and classic conclusion to Dante’s great epic poem, The Divine Comedy. Here Dante creates a unique vision of ecstatic transcendence, attempting to depict the ultimate goal of human striving, ascent to the divine and union with God. Three
representative cantos will be read.

Defending the Faith:
Church History Revisited
Br. Liam Mullin, OSB
A Three Evening Series
Thursdays, March 11, 18, 25
8pm – 9pm Kountze Room, Old Main

The Crusades, the Inquisition and the Protestant Reformation rank among the most controversial periods in the history of the Church. In sharp contrast to what is taught in many history classes, a look at the historical record reveals that the Church’s involvement in these events was surprisingly benign.

The Historical Jesus
Fr. Gerard Lair, OSB
A Three Evening Series
Wednesdays, March 10, 17, 24
8pm – 9pm Kountze Room, Old Main

These lectures will present the results of current research of biblical scholars on topics including the influence of John the Baptist on Jesus; Jesus’
fundamental message; modern misconceptions about the Judaism of Jesus’ day; the reason for the crucifixion.

We encourage you to take advantage of this unique opportunity to broaden your understanding of religion through lessons from the Benedictine monks of St. Mary's Abbey.
