Pat Schellberg '10 achieved the dream of a lifetime when he won the Millrose Games High School Mile at Madison Square Garden on Friday, January 29, 2010. He started the race ranked #1 in the country with a 4:12.43 mile at the Millrose Trials, and his performance on Friday night confirmed that his position was deserved. According to the Millrose website, "After a slow pace of 64.1 and 2:11.5 at the half, Schellberg hit the gas and blasted from third to first as he came off the far turn. His third quarter was 62.1 as he opened up a 20-meter gap."
After beating the field with a 4:14.84 mile Schellberg was euphoric at the finish line: “This has been such a big goal of mine for so long, so to accomplish this is a pretty incredible feeling,” said Schellberg. “...to finally see all the hard work pay off, with the biggest win I’ve ever had, is very satisfying." Someone tossed Pat a Delbarton flag at the finish line and he wrapped it around himself as he jogged around the track for a victory lap. “This was a dream come true,” said the North Carolina-bound runner. “Everything about the race was just perfect.” The Green Wave fan zone was out in force at the Garden and the entire Delbarton community congratulates Pat Schellberg '10 on his exceptional accomplishment. Nice touch wearing the flag, Pat. You made us proud!
