Headmaster Br. Paul Diveny presents runner Pat Schellberg with Delbarton's highest distinction...
...the Delbarton Medal. Pat made Delbarton proud by winning the Millrose High School Mile on Friday night.
Br. Paul described Pat as a 'gentleman' and commended him for his commitment to running, his confidence and his modesty.
A well deserved standing ovation for the fastest high school miler in the country, Pat Schellberg '10.
"It really is an honor to get a standing ovation for just running a race!" Yes, Pat, but what a race.
On February 3, 2010 Pat Schellberg '10 was awarded Delbarton's highest distinction, the Delbarton Medal, for "exemplifying all that is good about Delbarton athletics." Headmaster Br. Paul Diveny, OSB, surprised this year's winner of the Millrose High School Mile by presenting him with the medal in a packed Fine Arts Center Theater before a preview of the Abbey Players production of Kiss Me Kate. Br. Paul recalled that, in a single year, Pat Schellberg went from watching the Millrose Games in the stands, to winning the mile run. He commended Pat for his commitment to his sport, dedication to training and quiet confidence. His generous spirit was also noted. Not only did Pat motivate his fellow Green Wave runners but he shared training tips with peers at Morristown High.
The Headmaster described Schellberg as "a gentleman" as he accepted the Delbarton medal. "Thanks, guys," said Pat as he looked out over a student body that was on its feet in his honor. ""It really is an honor to get a standing ovation for just running a race."
After the Millrose race a reporter asked Pat Schellberg, "What's next?"
"Run faster," he replied.
After graduation this May Pat will join the North Carolina Tarheels track program. Congratulations to a fine runner who brings out the best in Green Wave athletics. Go Pat Schellberg!
